The Wonder Years Austin Concert reviews
Romantic Diana Krall
The Wonder Years concert was a very satisfying experience for my wife and me. The performance by her group and the orchestra members was top quality. The sound quality overall was only fair. It appears that a piano acoustically suffers from outdoor amplification. The stage lighting mirrored the musicality in an exotic way. However, at times the lighting of the performers was terrible and jolting to both the musicians and the audience. It seemed as though someone just walked in and threw a switch to see where they were going, unaware that a concert was taking place.
As darkness approached, we noticed a pair of floodlights against the walls under striped awnings just behind us, blazing into the audience from each side of the venue! Such harsh light so close to such an intimate experience is inexcusable. The use of candles is encouraged in such settings. Could the wattage be vastly lowered, redirected, or shielded? How often has this complaint been made?
The staff and ushers were, as always, very helpful and accommodating. The setting was first rate.
